| The following entries, submitted by area constituents, are distributed by me in this blog as a public service to increase dialog about issues of importance to Blount and Sevier County residents. I do not necessarily agree with or endorse any statement made herein. Our form of government works best, when many, differing viewpoints are heard and considered. The process is often "messy." Read, think, and offer your opinions. Most importantly, though, make up your own mind.

POST UT-01: CABLE TELEVISION VS AT&T CONTROVERSY.
Received: January 18, 2008. Added: January 18, 2008.
All of the issues against AT&T's entry into the TV and HDTV are diversions from the one real issue. Charter and Comcast do not want competition. With competition, Charter and Comcast will have to spend additional money to upgrade their customer service in order to compete. AT&T's entry into the maket will give customers a choice, something we do not have now. A statewide franchise under the propossed law will give all franchise fees, taxes, etc. to the local entity. No
local entity will lose a dime. AT&T will still have to deal with the local entities on adaily basis. You can also expect great service. Remeber the last time the telephone company, formerly BellSouth, responed to your needs? Compare that with the last time you tried to call Charter or Comcast if you were able to get them at all. AT&T will invest millions of dollars into the area and with investment come jobs. States of similar size to Tennessee showed increase of several thousand jobs. And where AT&T currently operates, savings have been passed on to the consumer. Just think about what competition has done to your long distance bill. By supporting AT&T's entry into the State of Tennessee means millions of dollars of investment, choice and better service, savings to each subscriber and creation of jobs for Tennesseans. Playing politics ith our ability to have a choice is not in the public' best interest. Please support AT&T entry into the market.
